Suspect Involved in 2024 Greece Boat Tragedy Arrested

LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Gujranwala Zone has arrested two human traffickers involved in migrant smuggling, illegal border crossings, and visa fraud. Among those arrested is Khadim Hussain Raja, a wanted suspect involved in the 2024 Greece boat tragedy.

According to FIA officials, Khadim Hussain Raja had been on the run in connection with two cases in Gujranwala. He had deceived the families of victims into paying large sums of money, promising to send their loved ones to Spain. Raja had initially trafficked the victims to Mauritania, where he tortured them and extorted further funds. Later, he attempted to send them to Spain by boat, which tragically capsized, resulting in the loss of several lives. In total, Khadim Hussain had extorted 6.5 million Pakistani rupees from his victims.

In a separate case, another suspect, Mohammad Javed Iqbal, was arrested for scamming a citizen by promising to send him to Uganda and collecting 260,000 rupees. Iqbal had been wanted since 2019.

Both suspects were arrested in various areas of Gujranwala, and investigations have begun into their criminal activities. FIA Spokesperson confirmed that the agency remains committed to cracking down on human trafficking and ensuring justice for the victims.
