KABUL: The interim government in Afghanistan has banned the entry of UN special representative on human rights for the country.
In a statement, spokesman for the interim government Zabihullah Mujahid said that Richard Bennet had been involved in spreading propaganda against the interim government in the past. He said that the UN representative for Afghanistan would not be allowed to enter the country again.
The spokesman set that the UN had designated Richard Bennet as its envoy on human rights in Afghanistan. However, he had been involved in propaganda against the Taliban government. Richard Bennet would continue his agenda to work against the interest of Taliban, so his travel to Afghanistan would not be allowed, he added.
The United Nations had nominated Richard Bennet as its special representative to Afghanistan in April 2022 and his job was to document human rights violations in Afghanistan under the rule of the Taliban.
UN agencies and international human rights organisations have often accused the Taliban of violating basic human rights, specially related to women. They have also banned girls from going to school and colleges in the past. Moreover,
Pakistan has repeatedly complained that terrorists were using the Afghan soil to carry out attacks on Pakistani areas in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Despite repeated appeals to stop the terrorists from infiltrating into Pakistan for their activities, the authorities in Kabul have failed to take any tangible step.
