LAHORE: As the general election results showed a split mandate with no political party winning enough seats to form a government, the two main parties made a contact and decided to continue discussions in days to come.
PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif met PPPP chief Asif Ali Zardari in Lahore and conveyed to him a message of former prime minister and party supremo Nawaz Sharif. They discussed the political scenario evolving after the general elections with no political party winning enough seats for form a government on its own at the centre.
Earlier, at a so-called victory speech, Nawaz Sharif invited all political parties and independent winners to join hands and form a coalition government to work for putting the country back on the path to development. He told Shehbaz Sharif to approach the leadership of the PPP, MQM and JUI-F for discussion to foam a coalition government.
The two leaders at the meeting agreed to continue talks and find a way out to jointly find a solution to the country’s issues after forming a coalition government.
However, in a message from Adiala jail, PTI founder Imran Khan claimed that independent candidates backed by his party were near winning a two-third majority. he ridiculed Nawaz Sharif for claiming victory without winning the required seats in National Assembly.
It may be noted that so far independent candidates have won 95 seats of the National Assembly followed by PML-N with 67, the PPP with 52 seats and 24 seats have been won by other party candidates.
