Talks With Transporters Successful, Fares Up by 25%

LAHORE: After successful negotiations between the Punjab Transport Department and transporters, the department has revoked the transporters’ self-imposed fare hike of 60–65%.

A new fare schedule has been issued, with a 25% increase in fares for buses traveling from Lahore to other cities. All bus terminals in Lahore have been ordered to display the updated fare list immediately.

For the route from Lahore to Rawalpindi, Executive Class fares have increased from Rs 2,480 to Rs 3,100, Economy from Rs 3,680 to Rs 4,600, and First Class from Rs 3,800 to Rs 4,750. Lahore to Peshawar fares now stand at Rs 3,950 for Executive and Rs 5,400 for Economy.

Fares from Lahore to Sargodha have risen to Rs 1,600 for Executive and Rs 2,200 for Economy, while Lahore to Faisalabad fares are Rs 1,600 for Executive and Rs 2,150 for Economy.

Lahore to Multan fares are Rs 2,750 for Executive and Rs 3,500 for Economy. Lahore to Quetta fares are Rs 5,600 for Executive, Rs 7,200 for Economy, and Rs 8,700 for First Class. From Lahore to Karachi, fares have increased to Rs 9,650 for Executive, Rs 12,300 for Economy, and Rs 13,700 for First Class.

Lahore to Hyderabad fares are now Rs 9,350 for Executive, Rs 12,000 for Economy, and Rs 13,700 for First Class. Lahore to Rahim Yar Khan and Sadiqabad fares have also risen, with Executive at Rs 4,100, Economy at Rs 5,900, and First Class at Rs 7,000.

The fare increase follows a sharp rise in petroleum prices, which had prompted transporters to initially announce a 65% increase.
