PESHAWAR: Five members of a highly wanted target killers’ gang, including the gang leader, were killed in an encounter with law enforcers, police here said.
The Counter Terrorism Police Chief Mian Saeed stated that the gang was planning attacks on the police.
The slain gang members had previously killed two police officers. The gang leader, Najmul Hassan, had even confessed in a video statement to killing a police constable.
The gang was involved in over 30 criminal incidents across Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, and Dara Adam Khel.
According to the police, the gang was responsible for the killing of 12 people in Peshawar and 17 in Nowshera. They also committed murders in Charsadda and Dara Adam Khel.
Additionally, the gang had targeted ANP leader Momin Khan and his brother, and had shot and injured a transgender individual.
The police said that the encounter was part of ongoing efforts to curb violent criminal activity in the region.
