PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly at a session discussed sectarian violence and killings in Kurram on Tuesday.
The session was chaired by Deputy Speaker Suriya Bibi in which PTI MPA from Kurram Ali Hadi condemned the attacks in Kurram, emphasizing the inhumanity of targeting women and children. He said these affected families, seeking refuge in homes, were not spared from violence.
Ali Hadi also highlighted that over the past four years local residents had fought against armed militants and that the provincial government had addressed some of their needs, including providing medicines and tents.
JUI-F MPA Muhammad Riaz, also addressing the violence in Kurram, expressed his readiness to collaborate with the provincial government to restore peace in the region. He called for action against sectarian militant groups, advocated for disarmament in Kurram, and urged the government to provide assistance to those affected by the violence, ensuring medical treatment for the injured.
JUI-F member Makhdum Aftab Haider raised concerns about the unequal distribution of Provincial Finance Commission (PFC) funds. He argued that the constitutional requirement of equally distributing 20% of the budget among all tehsils had been ignored. Haider pointed out that 56 tehsils under PTI’s jurisdiction received a larger share, leaving opposition-controlled tehsils underfunded.
He accused the government of failing to adhere to its claimed principles, including the model of the State of Madinah, and warned that this injustice could lead the province toward decline.
The session was adjourned until December 16.
