Telecom Subscribers In Pakistan Reach 200 Million: PTA

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s telecom subscribers have reached 200 million, while broadband connections surpassed 150 million, according to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s (PTA) Annual Report 2024–25.

The report stated that steady expansion, improved stability, and enhanced performance across the telecom industry. Nationwide telecom coverage has exceeded 92 percent, and broadband penetration has crossed 60 percent, reflecting increased digital adoption across the country.

PTA stated that the total revenue of the telecom sector exceeded Rs1 trillion, marking a 12 percent year-on-year increase.

The sector’s contribution to the national exchequer rose to Rs402 billion, compared to Rs336 billion in 2024. Meanwhile, investment in the telecom sector grew by 9 percent, reaching $838 million.

As a result of expanded infrastructure, data usage in 2025 increased to 27,727 petabytes. Currently, 95 percent of cellular networks operate on 4G technology, while 17.21 Tbps of international bandwidth is available across the country.

To strengthen regional connectivity, four new high-capacity submarine cables are being added. PTA has also facilitated the implementation of national roaming and the expansion of telecom infrastructure in Pakistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The report further notes significant growth in local mobile device manufacturing, with over 95 percent of mobile phones now produced locally, including 68 percent smartphones.

Pakistan’s global cyber security ranking has improved, supported by PTA’s National Telecom Security Operations Center (nTSOC), which has played a key role in countering cyber threats. Consumer protection initiatives resulted in a 13 percent decline in complaints during the reporting period.
