Fight against terror shouldn’t violate human rights: envoy

NEW YORK: Pakistan on Friday stressed the importance of not violating human rights while tackling the issue of terrorism in any part of the world.

The caution was made at the sixth committee of the UN General Assembly in New York by Pakistan’s acting permanent representative to the UN Usman Jadoon.

Ambassador Jadoon told the International forum that l Pakistan had been fighting the menace of terrorism for decades and in the process had lost over 80000 lives and properties word billions of dollars.

He said that Pakistan had been the major victim of state sponsored terrorism from across the borders and was still fighting terror groups on its eastern western borders.

The representative of Pakistan expressed concern that in the fight against terrorism the basic rights of the citizens were being violated in different conflict zones of the world.

He also highlighted the rampant violations of human rights in the occupied Jammu and Kashmir where more than half a million Indian troops remain deployed and have been accused of creating a sense of terror among the people.
