ISLAMABAD: A report published by a US-based journal has stated that terrorist attacks in Pakistan are directly linked to Afghan territory, challenging the Taliban regime’s claims of ensuring peace, stability and development in Afghanistan.
According to Eurasia Review, more than 20 terrorist groups are currently operating from Afghan soil, indicating that the Taliban’s narrative of improved security is misleading. The report argues that the continued presence and activity of these groups undermine regional stability and have a direct impact on Pakistan’s internal security situation.
The journal notes that international assessments, including reports by the World Bank, have also dismissed the Taliban’s economic claims. Afghanistan’s economy, the report says, is not experiencing real growth but is instead surviving at a basic subsistence level.
A significant gap remains between the Taliban’s branding efforts and the ground realities, particularly in governance and institutional capacity.
Experts cited in the report highlight that one of the most prominent examples of the Taliban regime’s long-term self-destructive policies is the continued ban on women’s education.
Analysts warn that reliance on propaganda and unfounded claims will not enable the Taliban to sustain their rule or gain international legitimacy.
