DUBLIN: Thousands of people gathered at a square in the Dublin city after a website launched from Pakistan uploaded an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-generated news report about the function.
The website claimed that the Halloween parade would be held from 7pm to 9pm local time. There was no Halloween parade at all in the area that day, however. But after the news was spread, thousands of people gathered at the site without any confirmation from the authorities and kept on waiting for its start.
As time passed, more and more crowds showed up and the police had to close all roads in the area. Even after the concluding time was over, the people kept on waiting and more crowds arrived. The police and other authorities made announcements on social media that there was no such event asking the crowds to leave, but to no avail.
The police on its social media account of X said,”Be informed that contrary to information being circulated online, no Halloween parade is scheduled to take place at Dublin City Centre this evening or tonight. All those gathered on O’ Cornnell Street in expectation of such an parade are asked to disperse safely.” Though there was no word about the fake news by the website, local people said it might have been posted to win readership and earn money.
