ISLAMABAD: Thousands of Pakistanis, including religious pilgrims, are stuck in Iran and Iraq due to the tense situation in the region.

A Pakistani traveler told a TV channel that the emergency number of the Pakistani embassy in Tehran is not working. In Iraq, no one is answering the emergency numbers of the Pakistani embassy.

Diplomatic sources say the Pakistani ambassador to Iran is currently in Pakistan on leave. In Baghdad, the Pakistani embassy is working normally, but it is closed today because of a religious holiday.

The government of Pakistan has issued a travel advisory for Iran and has decided to stop all travel from Pakistan to Iran due to the security situation. Travel by land has also been banned.

Officials say the ban has started from today and will stay in place until the situation improves. Pakistani border authorities have been told to enforce the ban.

Pakistanis stuck in Iran and Iraq are asking for help. They want the government to make sure emergency phone lines work and to help bring them home safely.
