LONDON: Thousands of people took to the streets in several major European cities to protest Israeli attacks on Gaza.

Large demonstrations were held in countries including the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Ireland.

According to reports, protests in Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, and Lisbon intensified after Israeli forces intercepted the Global Solidarity Flotilla carrying aid to Gaza, detaining more than 450 activists, including 40 Spanish nationals.

In Italy, over 2 million people expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people during a nationwide strike on October 3.

Public support for Palestinians is growing in Spain, where Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez condemned Israel’s actions as “genocide” and called for Israeli teams to be banned from international competitions.

In Barcelona alone, police reported more than 70,000 participants holding Palestinian flags and banners reading messages such as “Gaza Hurts Me,” “Stop the Genocide,” and “Don’t Stop the Flotilla.”

The demonstrations reflect rising European outrage over the humanitarian situation in Gaza and calls for increased international action.
