Three laborers killed as under-construction house collapses in Karachi

Several persons trapped beneath debris when three-storey structure caved in, say police.

KARACHI: At least three persons lost their lives and scores of others were injured when an under-construction  house collapsed in Shah Faisal Colony in Karachi on Wednesday morning.

Rescue personnel and police said several people were also injured in the incident. 

According to the police, the building collapsed when work on the construction of the third floor was underway. 

Three of the injured persons were critical and gave been shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. 

Rescuers were still at the site and searching for other people as more were feared trapped beneath the debris.

Mola Bukhsh, who was working on the house, told media that his colleagues were trapped inside. He said they had been working in the house for four days. There were about 10 laborers working on the third floor when the building caved in, he added.

Police said that due to rush people at the site, work to remove the debris was being hampered. He said that machinery have been requisitioned to expedite the rescue work.
