BALAKOT: Rescue teams have safely recovered three local horsemen who went missing after being stranded during heavy snowfall in the Seri Paya area of Balakot.
According to officials, up to six feet of snow had accumulated in the area, forcing the three men to take shelter in a makeshift refuge after losing contact with their families. A 16-hour-long rescue operation was launched, following which all three were found alive and brought to safety.
The operation involved the Tourist Police, district police, Rescue 1122 personnel, and local volunteers. The rescued individuals earn their livelihood by providing horse-riding services to tourists visiting Seri and Paya. Communication with their families had been cut off due to severe weather conditions.
Meanwhile, authorities announced that the E-35 Hazara Expressway has been reopened for all types of traffic from Hazara (Burhan) to Thakot after an improvement in road conditions. Officials said the motorway had earlier been closed as a precautionary measure to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of commuters amid harsh weather.
Heavy snowfall continues to affect several northern areas, with authorities urging travelers and tourists to exercise caution and follow official advisories.
