ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has disqualified three PTI leaders after they were sentenced to 10 years in prison by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC).

Senator Ejaz Chaudhry, MNA Muhammad Ahmad Chattha, and MPA Ahmad Khan Bhachar, who was also the Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly, have all been declared ineligible to hold public office.

According to the ECP, they were found guilty by the ATC in cases related to the May 9 riots. The disqualification was made under Article 63(1)(h) of the Constitution, which disallows convicted individuals from remaining members of parliament.

Ejaz Chaudhry was serving as a senator, Ahmad Chattha was elected from NA-66 Wazirabad, and Ahmad Bhachar from PP-87 Mianwali.

The May 9 incidents involved violent protests across several cities, which followed the arrest of PTI chairman Imran Khan. These protests led to significant damage to public property and disruption of law and order.

This recent move by the Election Commission is seen as part of ongoing legal actions against PTI leaders involved in these events. The party has condemned the verdicts, calling them politically motivated.
