ISLAMABAD: During the hearing of the case regarding the trial of civilians in military courts, Attorney General of Pakistan Mansoor Awan informed the Supreme Court that three senior military officers were retired without pension and benefits due to negligence in connection with the May 9 attack on Jinnah House.
A seven-member constitutional bench headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan conducted the hearing. The attorney general told the court that a lieutenant general, a brigadier, and a lieutenant colonel were retired following departmental action.
Additionally, the performance of 14 other officers was deemed unsatisfactory, and they will not be considered for future promotions.
Justice Jamal Mandokhail inquired whether any criminal proceedings had been initiated against these officers. The attorney general responded that criminal action would only apply if a crime had been committed; the officers faced departmental action solely for failing to prevent the May 9 incident.
The court reserved its judgment on the intra-court appeal regarding the trial of civilians in military courts, with a verdict expected later this week.
