LAHORE: Punjab government has finalized an agreement with Tanzeem-ul-Madaris Ahl-e-Sunnat to gradually take over the management of 177 seminaries and 330 mosques previously run by the banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).
According to media reports , the arrangement was formalized through a memorandum issued by Sahibzada Abdul Mustafa Hazarvi, Secretary-General of Tanzeem-ul-Madaris, assuring full compliance with the government’s terms and conditions while assuming administrative control.
The memorandum emphasizes that all seminaries will operate within the framework of national laws and uphold peace, stability, and public order.
It further states that the institutions will remain free of extremist influence, and that no person involved in suspicious or anti-state activities will be allowed to manage, teach, or study in these seminaries.
Tanzeem-ul-Madaris has also distributed affidavit forms to the heads of affiliated seminaries, requiring them to submit written declarations pledging loyalty to the state, adherence to the law, and a commitment to promote patriotism among students.
The agreement authorizes the Punjab government to take legal and administrative action in case of any violation of the agreed terms. Officials say the decision aims to ensure greater oversight and bring religious seminaries across the province under a unified, lawful administrative structure.
