PESHAWAR: Transgender individuals in Peshawar have raised complaints of harassment and extortion by the police at the CCP checkpoint outside Iqbal Plaza.

Transgender activists Arzo Khan and Sobia Khan (Bebo) expressed their grievances in a press conference, stating that police officers forcibly take money from them and subject them to violence.

Arzo Khan stated, “Police officers extort money from transgender individuals in the name of justice at the checkpoint outside Iqbal Plaza, and this checkpoint has become a livelihood issue for us.”

She appealed to the police authorities to take immediate action for the protection of transgender people.

Sobia Khan emphasized, “Four desks established for transgender individuals in Peshawar are occupied by irrelevant people, while transgender individuals are being denied their rights.”

She demanded that transgender individuals be recruited into the police force so they can resolve their own issues.

During the press conference, the transgender community voiced their complaints against the police and demanded dignity, employment, and protection.
