Tribal groups cease fire after killing 50 people

Armed clash and fighting continued for several days over a land dispute, says local admin.

KURRAM: The two groups of tribes who fought over a piece of land in Kurram district of Khyber Pakthunkhwa have finally agreed to cease fire after 50 lives were lost from both the sides, local administration and police have said.

The armed tribesmen had dug out trenches from where they continued firing on each other. The deputy commissioner of Kurram today said that the trenches have been vacated from the armed people and security forces deployed there.

He said that for the last over 24 hours there have been no reports about firing from the five places of clashes. He said that talks were underway to ensure permanent peace in the area. 

Meanwhile, Peshawar-Parachinar remained closed for over a week now, creating shortage of essential food items in the district.

Besides the deaths, over 200 people have been injured in the armed clashes that cintinued for over a week, said the police in the Kurram district.
