Tribute Paid to Parveen Shakir on 21st Death Anniversary

ISLAMABAD: On the 21st death anniversary of the renowned poetess Parveen Shakir, a ceremony was held to pay tribute to her literary contributions.

The ceremony, organized by the Parveen Shakir Trust, took place at her grave at I-8, where officials from the Trust and the Customs Department laid wreaths on her tomb.

During the event, literary figures and speakers expressed their admiration for Parveen Shakir’s literary services. Parveen Agha Qadir, Chairperson of the Parveen Shakir Trust, said, “Parveen Shakir’s poetry is still present like fragrance, which we all can feel.”

Parveen Shakir was born on November 24, 1952, in Karachi. She earned a Master’s and PhD degree in English Literature and gained immense popularity both domestically and internationally with her unique poetry collection Khushboo (fragrance). She was honored with the Adamjee Award for her first book.

Her other poetry collections, including Khud Kalam (self-talk), Sad Barg (hundred petals), Inkaar (denial), Mah-e-Tamām (full moon), and Kaf-e-Aina (palm of the mirror), also received widespread acclaim.

Before the ceremony, the Parveen Shakir Trust organized a Quran Khawani (recitation of the Quran), where prayers were offered for her eternal peace and higher status in the hereafter.

It is worth noting that Parveen Shakir tragically passed away in a car accident in Islamabad on December 26, 1994.
