WASHINGTON: The Trump administration is reportedly working on an interim proposal that would allow Iran to continue enriching uranium at a low level, as part of a broader effort to curb its nuclear ambitions through diplomacy.
According to a U.S. newspaper report, the proposed plan would serve as a “diplomatic bridge” aimed at easing current tensions between Washington and Tehran. While Iran would be permitted to maintain limited uranium enrichment under strict conditions, the long-term goal of the plan is to bring all enrichment activities inside Iran to a complete halt.
As part of the deal, the United States would assist Iran in building nuclear power reactors for peaceful energy purposes. Discussions may also include the development of enrichment centers under international supervision. Once Iran begins receiving the benefits of these facilities, it would be required to stop all uranium enrichment activities within the country.
The report noted that it remains unclear whether Iran will accept the proposal. Iranian officials have indicated they will issue a formal response in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has rejected any notion of surrendering to U.S. pressure. He stated that Iran will not abandon its nuclear program under foreign pressure, declaring, “No free nation will bow before oppression and injustice.”
The proposal is part of ongoing international efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons while avoiding further escalation in the region.
