Trump announces new missile defense system “Golden Dome”

Says system costing 175 billion dollars would be operational by end of his second presidential term.

WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans for a new state-of-the-art missile defense system named the “Golden Dome,” aimed at protecting the United States from foreign missile threats.

According to international news agencies, Trump stated that the system would be operational by the end of his presidential term.

Speaking at the White House, Trump said, “During my election campaign, I promised the American people that I would build an advanced missile defense shield. Today, I’m proud to announce that we have officially selected the basic framework for this system.”

The ambitious “Golden Dome” defense project is expected to cost $175 billion. Trump revealed that $25 billion have already been included in the defense bill to initiate the project. He emphasized that all components of the Golden Dome system would be manufactured within the United States.

The system will be led by Space Operations Deputy Chief General Michael, and will include both land-based and space-based elements. It will feature satellite tracking systems and space interceptors capable of targeting and destroying missiles launched from space.

Trump further mentioned that Canada has expressed interest in becoming part of the Golden Dome system, and the U.S. is willing to assist Canada in this regard.

Separately, the U.S. Department of Defense confirmed that the purpose of the Golden Dome is to safeguard the nation against cruise, ballistic, and hypersonic missiles, whether conventional or nuclear.

The announcement marks a significant step in the U.S. strategy to enhance its missile defense infrastructure amidst growing global security challenges.
