WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that negotiations with Iran are progressing, offering a glimmer of hope in easing tensions between the two nations.
However, he also hinted at the possibility of imposing additional sanctions on Russia over its aggressive actions.
In remarks to the media, President Trump voiced his concerns over Russian President Vladimir Putin’s conduct, stating, “Putin is responsible for killing people, and I’m not happy about it.” He added that his administration is actively considering further punitive measures against Russia.
On trade matters, Trump revealed that the U.S. has extended certain tariffs until July 9, following a formal request from the European Union. A senior EU official confirmed that a phone call between EU leadership and President Trump resulted in a “positive” discussion on future trade agreements. Negotiations are expected to continue as both sides aim to strengthen economic ties.
The developments come amid rising global geopolitical tensions and ongoing diplomatic efforts by the U.S. to balance trade and security concerns with major international powers.
