WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has once again lashed out at India, calling its economy a “dead economy” in a recent post on his social media platform, Truth Social.
Commenting on India’s growing ties with Russia, Trump stated, “I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can both take their dead economies down together — I’m concerned about America.” His remarks suggest deep dissatisfaction with India’s economic policies and its partnership with Russia amid ongoing global tensions.
Trump further criticized India’s high tariffs, stating, “We’ve done very little business with India because their tariffs are the highest in the world.” He implied that the current trade relationship between the two nations is imbalanced and unfair to the United States.
In the same post, Trump also referenced U.S.-Russia relations, saying there’s “virtually no trade between the United States and Russia” — indicating a parallel between both nations in his view.
These remarks follow Trump’s announcement of a successful trade agreement with Pakistan. He claimed that the United States will assist Pakistan in increasing its oil reserves, describing the deal as a step forward in strengthening bilateral ties.
Earlier, Trump had also proposed imposing a 25% tariff and additional penalties on Indian imports, further escalating tensions between the two nations.
