LACHIN: In a significant show of unity, the Presidents of Türkiye and Azerbaijan have once again reaffirmed their unwavering support for Pakistan amidst recent Pakistan-India tensions.
Speaking at a trilateral summit held in the Azerbaijani city of Lachin, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed satisfaction over the ceasefire between Pakistan and India, stating that “the ceasefire is a source of relief for Türkiye,” and hoped it would lead to lasting peace in the region.
President Erdoğan extended his congratulations to the people of Azerbaijan on their Independence Day, emphasizing the deep-rooted ties among the three nations: “Türkiye, Pakistan, and Azerbaijan are three countries, but one nation.”
Meanwhile, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev reiterated his country’s full solidarity with Pakistan during the recent escalation with India. “The Pakistan-India tensions were deeply concerning for us. Disputes should be resolved through peaceful means,” he said.
President Aliyev also announced a $2 billion investment in Pakistan, marking a major boost in economic cooperation between the two allies.
He celebrated the presence of Turkish and Pakistani leaders at Azerbaijan’s Independence Day ceremony, calling it a symbol of “strong friendship and unity.” The event was held in a region recently liberated by Azerbaijan.
President Aliyev highlighted Azerbaijan’s historic struggle, stating, “107 years ago, Azerbaijan became the first independent Muslim country, only to be occupied by Russia seven years later. After the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, we regained our independence, but faced continued aggression from Armenia.”
He recalled the atrocities committed by Armenian forces, including genocide and displacement of millions of Azerbaijanis. “On November 10, 2022, we defeated Armenia and liberated Nagorno-Karabakh. During this fight, Pakistan and Türkiye stood firmly by Azerbaijan,” he added.
The summit and celebrations reinforced the growing strategic, political, and economic cooperation among the three nations, strengthening the notion of a united front in regional and international matters.
