ISLAMABAD: In a traffic accident at Islamabad’s Secretariat Chowk on Monday night, a land cruiser driven by a teenage son of a sitting high court judge killed two young girls.
The incident occurred when the white land cruiser, reportedly driven at high speed, collided with a scooter.
The victims, Samreen Hussain and her friend Tabinda Batool, were returning home from the Pakistan National Council of Arts when the collision occurred.
Both sustained severe injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.
The driver of the vehicle has been identified as 16-year-old Abuzar, who is the son of Islamabad High Court Judge, Justice Asif. Police confirmed that the teenager did not hold a valid driving license at the time of the accident, making the incident even more alarming.
According to his statement to the authorities, Abuzar admitted that he was recording a video on Snapchat while driving and later disposed of his mobile phone. The reckless act has drawn widespread condemnation.
On Tuesday, a local court approved a four-day physical remand for Abuzar, handing him over to the police for further investigation and questioning.
The case is currently being handled by the Secretariat Police Station, and authorities have pledged to carry out a thorough investigation into the tragic incident.
