Two more arrested for illegal issuance of e-visas to Afghans

Government employee among four so far held in the case. Further probe underway.

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested two more suspects in the ongoing scandal involving the illegal issuance of e-visas to Afghan nationals.

Among those arrested is a government employee, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to four.

According to sources, the FIA’s Anti-Human Trafficking Circle apprehended Nadir Rahim and Azizullah Afridi. Rahim is employed at the government’s Press Information Department, while Afridi’s bank account was allegedly used for financial transactions with Afghan nationals.

Previously, two Afghan nationals residing illegally in Pakistan identified as Atif and Ahmad Zaib had been arrested in connection with the case.

Initial investigations revealed that a Foreign Ministry official, Samiullah Afridi, and an agent, Malik Muneeb, were also involved in the fraudulent visa scheme. Raids are reportedly underway to arrest them.

Sources stated that evidence had also been found indicating the involvement of certain officials from the Interior Ministry in facilitating the illegal issuance of e-visas.
