MAKKAH: Saudi Arabian authorities have hanged two Pakistani nationals after they were convicted of drug smuggling, according to media reports.
The individuals were arrested by Saudi law enforcement agencies on charges of trafficking illegal narcotics. Following a full legal process, a Saudi court found them guilty and sentenced them to death.
The sentence was subsequently carried out in Makkah. The full identities of the two persons were not released.
Saudi Arabia considers drug smuggling and related activities to be among the most serious crimes. The Kingdom enforces strict laws against narcotics trafficking, with punishments ranging from lengthy imprisonment to capital punishment, depending on the nature and scale of the offense.
Senior officials have stated that drug smuggling poses a serious threat to Saudi society and its economy.
