PESHAWAR: Senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz have filed a petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan challenging the Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) decision regarding their de-seating.
The petition was submitted through Barrister Gohar, urging the Supreme Court to declare the PHC’s October 1 verdict null and void. The plea argues that the decision is legally unsustainable and should be overturned.
Earlier, the Peshawar High Court had granted a stay order against the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) notification to de-seat the two leaders. However, on October 1, the court lifted the stay order and adjourned further proceedings, while also directing Omar Ayub to surrender before the competent forum.
The Election Commission of Pakistan had issued the de-seating notification after both PTI leaders were convicted in separate cases, effectively stripping them of their parliamentary seats.
This legal development marks a significant turning point in the country’s political landscape, as Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz—two key figures of the PTI leadership—seek relief from the Supreme Court to overturn their disqualifications and retain their positions.
