TEHRAN: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has clarified his earlier remarks after facing criticism inside the country, stating that Iran considers U.S. military bases and installations in the region as legitimate targets.
In a new statement, President Pezeshkian said that Iran’s actions were not directed at neighboring countries, but rather at American military bases and facilities in the region. According to him, these bases have been used for aggression against Iran, which is why Tehran views them as legitimate military targets.
He said that Iran seeks friendly relations with neighboring states, but that this does not mean the country will give up its right to defend itself against the United States.
“We will stand in defense of our country and our resistance until our last breath,” Pezeshkian said, reiterating Iran’s commitment to protecting its sovereignty.
Earlier, during a televised address, the Iranian president had apologized to neighboring countries whose territories were affected during Iranian strikes.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that Iran has not carried out aggression against neighboring countries so far, but warned that if attacks on Iran continue, all American air bases and U.S. interests in the region could become targets.
