WASHINGTON: The U.S. State Department has expressed satisfaction over the recent ceasefire between Pakistan and India and has urged both countries to engage in direct dialogue to ensure long-term peace in the region.
During a press briefing, Deputy Spokesperson Tomy Pigott said the United States is pleased with the ceasefire and commended the leadership of both Prime Ministers for taking steps to de-escalate tensions. “We are encouraged by the ceasefire and we continue to support direct dialogue between India and Pakistan,” he stated.
Pigott emphasized the importance of restraint and diplomacy, saying, “Both sides need to take a step back. Our focus remains on facilitating a peaceful resolution through bilateral talks.”
He added that President Donald Trump is a strong advocate for peace and has praised the efforts of both Prime Ministers in working toward de-escalation.
The U.S. reiterated its commitment to regional stability and encouraged continued communication to address mutual concerns peacefully.
