LONDON: The UK has deported an additional 60,000 illegal migrants, bringing the total number removed since 2024 to 87,000, under the strict immigration policies of Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, who is of Pakistani descent.
According to the Home Office, 43,000 migrants left voluntarily following legal orders, while over 15,000 were forcibly deported by authorities.
Deportations of foreign criminals also increased by 32 percent, totaling more than 8,700 individuals removed.
Authorities have strengthened operations in collaboration with France to prevent illegal entry into the UK by sea and to crack down on human smuggling networks.
The Home Office stated that illegal migrants now face greater difficulty hiding within the country.
Despite the crackdown, more than 65,000 migrants have entered the UK by sea, highlighting ongoing challenges in controlling irregular migration. The government is also working on legislation to limit appeals based on human rights grounds for deported migrants.
Home Secretary Mahmood has reiterated her commitment to continue increasing deportations and tightening enforcement to prevent illegal immigration.
