LONDON: The UK government has officially allowed Hassan Nawaz, son of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and his business associates to operate without any restrictions.
The UK’s tax authority, Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC), has formally closed the bankruptcy case that had been filed against Hassan Nawaz. In its decision, HMRC stated that there was no indication of non-cooperation or any breach of court orders on his part.
According to the authorities, Hassan Nawaz complied with all legal procedures and requirements, leading to the complete closure of the case. No further legal action remains pending against him.
The business of Hassan Nawaz had come under scrutiny in both Pakistan and the UK, particularly during investigations into the Sharif family’s offshore assets revealed in the Panama Papers.
The bankruptcy case in the UK was one of several financial matters raised over the years. With this latest decision by the British tax department, Hassan Nawaz has been legally cleared in this matter, which may help restore his standing in international business circles.
