UK to double investment in Pakistan: high commissioner

Function held in Islamabad to celebrate King Charles' 75th birthday.

ISLAMABAD: The British High Commission in Islamabad arranged a function to celebrate the 75th birthday of King Charles.

The function was attended, among others, by caretaker foreign minister Jalil Abbas Jilani, ambassadors of different countries and officials from government departments.

Speaking on the occasion, British High Commissioner Jane Marriott shed light on the challenges of climate change and the King Charles’ role in helping the world cope with the emerging situation.

She said United Kingdom has announced to double its investment in Pakistan to tackle climate change, enhance climate resilience, and promote adaptation.

The high commissioner said the commitment aligned with the United Kingdom’s advocacy for a ‘Loss and Damage’ fund at COP 28, aimed at supporting climate-vulnerable countries.

Reflecting on King Charles’ advocacy for environmental sustainability, she stressed  the urgency of addressing climate vulnerabilities, particularly in Pakistan.
