ISLAMABAD: The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has praised Pakistan for its strong efforts in fighting drug trafficking.

UNODC’s representative in Pakistan, Troels Vester, said that Pakistan is on the front line in the global war against drugs. He added that the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has achieved major success, proving Pakistan’s strong commitment to stopping illegal drugs.

Vester noted that while opium and heroin production in Afghanistan is decreasing, new synthetic drug labs are being set up there. To deal with this new threat, the UNODC has released a new global roadmap to strengthen drug control efforts.

He also said that Pakistan cannot be left alone in this fight, and that international cooperation is necessary to stop drug smuggling.

According to UNODC, Pakistan seized 365 metric tons of drugs and chemicals in one year. The UN official said that Pakistan’s role remains crucial in combating organized crime and drug trafficking in the region.
