UN Report Slams India’s Cross-Border Strikes, Clears Pakistan of Allegations

NEW YORK: A United Nations report has sharply criticized India’s military operation inside Pakistani territory, known as “Operation Sindoor,” calling it illegal under international law.

The report also dismissed Indian claims that Pakistan was involved in the Pahalgam attack in May 2025, stating that no credible evidence was presented to support these allegations.

According to the UN experts, Pakistan consistently denied any role and called for independent, transparent investigations, which the UN report endorsed.

The report emphasizes that India’s unilateral military action violated the UN Charter and international norms, particularly due to the lack of timely notification to the UN Security Council.

The experts noted that the strikes affected civilian areas, including mosques, causing multiple casualties. They stressed that using force under the pretext of counterterrorism without UN authorization is unlawful and risks escalating regional tensions.

The report concludes that Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity were seriously violated, and if India’s actions are considered an “armed attack,” Pakistan has the right to self-defense under international law.
