UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations Security Council has strongly condemned a series of deadly terrorist attacks carried out across Pakistan’s Balochistan province, which claimed at least 48 lives, including 31 civilians.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, Security Council President James Kariuki CMG of the United Kingdom described the attacks, which occurred on January 31, 2026, as “heinous and cowardly.” Among the civilian victims were five women and three children. Several others were injured in the violence.
The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Members of the Security Council expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the Government and people of Pakistan. They also wished a swift and full recovery to those injured.
Reaffirming their position on global security, Council members stressed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations remains one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.
The Security Council underlined the importance of holding all those responsible for the attacks — including perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors — fully accountable and bringing them to justice. It called on all states to cooperate actively with the Government of Pakistan in line with international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
The Council further reiterated that acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of motivation, location, or perpetrators. It emphasized the need for all countries to combat terrorism through lawful means, consistent with the UN Charter and international human rights, humanitarian, and refugee law.
The statement was issued by the Office of the Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General at UN Headquarters in New York.
