NEW YORK: Following a series of provocative statements by U.S. President Donald Trump, diplomatic efforts are underway to defuse tensions surrounding Iran.

In a significant development, the United Nations Security Council has scheduled an emergency meeting on Friday to address the escalating situation, particularly amid concerns over a potential Iran-Israel conflict.

According to international news agencies, the meeting was requested by Iran and has received support from key UN members including Pakistan, China, and Russia.

Meanwhile, European diplomatic efforts are also in motion. Foreign ministers from Germany, France, and the United Kingdom are set to hold crucial talks with Iranian officials in Geneva on Friday. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is expected to lead Tehran’s delegation during these negotiations.

Sources indicate that these talks will be followed by a structured dialogue at the expert level, aimed at finding common ground on the nuclear issue and regional security.

In a noteworthy development, the United States has also agreed to the European-Iranian meeting in Geneva, signaling a possible opening for multilateral engagement despite rising hostilities.
