UNITED NATIONS: Russia and Denmark have warned the international community about the rising threat posed by Fitna-al-Khawarij, validating Pakistan’s long-held concerns over the group’s activities in the region.
Speaking at a meeting of the UN Security Council, Russia’s Permanent Representative, Vasily Nebenzya, cautioned that the presence of terrorist organisations in Afghanistan has increased the risk of instability in neighbouring countries.
He noted that extremist networks operating from Afghan territory could trigger the spillover of terrorism into Central Asia and beyond.
Denmark’s Permanent Representative, Christina Markus Lassen, echoed these concerns, saying the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), referred to as Fitna-al-Khawarij, continues to receive “substantial support” from individuals within the Afghan government-like structure.
She highlighted that an estimated 6,000 TTP militants are currently based in Afghanistan and are responsible for orchestrating major attacks inside Pakistan.
