Govt to pay cash to missing persons’ families: minister

Federal minister says state is like a mother, it stands with families of missing persons.

ISLAMABAD: After failing to find a clue to missing persons, the federal government has announced that it will pay cash compensation to the families of those missing for over five years.

Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazir Tarar on Friday said that the cabinet had approved payment of Rs5 million to the family of each missing person.

He said that the state was like a mother for its citizen and by announcing the compensation it had proved that the state stood by those who have faced the agony of suffering the disappearance of their loved ones.

However, the minister failed to acknowledge that the prime responsibility of the state was to protect the life of its citizen, and no allow anyone to pick a citizen and disappear him and remain scot-free.

It may be mentioned here that hundreds of people have gone missing especially in Balochistan and their families have held protests in different cities including Islamabad.

A dharna was held in Gwadar by Baloch Yakjehti Committee in Gwadar which continued for many days and ended after talks with the government last night.

Their demands included recovery of the missing persons, giving rights to the local people on utilization of the province’s resources and other rights.
