ISLAMABAD: While it is not clear if the PTI party of Imran Khan will hold a public gathering in Islamabad on September 8, the government has introduced a bill in National Assembly envisaging three years imprisonment for anyone violating a ban on holding public gatherings in Islamabad.
The PTI cancelled its August 22 public meeting that was to be held in Islamabad that day under unexplained circumstances. The party had announced that it will arrange the public meeting at the same place, Tarnol, on September 8.
However, while the PTI has repeatedly announced that the September 8 public gathering would be held at all costs, the government on Monday introduced a bill in the national assembly envisaging three years jail term for anyone violating a ban on holding of public gatherings in Islamabad.
Political observers said that the government wanted to pass the bill through the national assembly and Senate to make it a law and ban PTI from holding any public gathering in the federal capital.
Speaking in the national assembly, leaders of the PTI criticized the government and said the introduction of the bill was illegal and against democratic norms.
They said the government was getting panicked due to the mass support to the PTI in the country. They said the PTI would go for the power show on September 8 come what may.
