UNICEF, Pakistan Vow Stronger Cooperation on Child Rights

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Human Rights Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar met with a UNICEF delegation led by Country Representative Pernille Ironside to explore new avenues of cooperation in advancing child rights in Pakistan.

Senator Tarar welcomed the delegation, expressing confidence that Ironside’s tenure in Pakistan would be both rewarding and impactful. He emphasized that the government remained firmly committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment for all children across the country.

The discussions primarily focused on strengthening child protection mechanisms, preventing abuse, and designing a multi-year action plan with UNICEF aimed at shielding children from violence, exploitation, and neglect.

Commending Pakistan’s recent reforms, Ironside highlighted the passage of the Child Marriage Restraint Act along with other progressive child protection policies. She reiterated UNICEF’s commitment to working in close partnership with the government to further enhance safeguards for children nationwide.

Both sides agreed to pursue their shared vision through closer coordination and joint initiatives, aiming to deliver practical and tangible results for the welfare and protection of children in Pakistan.
