UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations Security Council convened an emergency meeting to discuss the escalating situation in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route.

During the session, members debated the possible authorization of the use of force to ensure the reopening of commercial maritime routes. A resolution presented by Bahrain proposed military measures to safeguard shipping vessels in the region.

The draft resolution condemned recent Iranian attacks as unacceptable and urged the Security Council to take necessary steps to ensure the security of sea lanes. It also emphasized maintaining the free movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) stated that its member countries are facing Iranian aggression and affirmed that they have the full right to defend themselves.

The meeting comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East, with increasing concerns over maritime security and the potential impact on global trade.
