NEW YORK: The international community has issued a strong warning to the Afghan Taliban during a United Nations Security Council meeting, citing the group’s failure to fulfill commitments on counterterrorism and prevent the use of Afghan soil by militant organizations.

Several member states expressed grave concern that Afghanistan has become a hub for terrorist groups, posing serious threats to regional and international security.

Delegates highlighted the continued presence and activities of groups such as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Al-Qaeda, and ISIS, accusing the Taliban-led administration of ineffective or insufficient action against them.

China’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Fu Cong, warned that terrorist groups, including the TTP, remain active in Afghanistan and are involved in attacks against neighboring countries.

Denmark’s UN envoy, Christina Markus Lassen, stressed that the Taliban must take concrete steps to eliminate Al-Qaeda, TTP, and other extremist organizations operating within Afghan territory.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar, reported a sharp increase in terrorist attacks against Pakistan originating from Afghanistan. He stated that these attacks are being monitored, planned, and financially supported from Afghan soil, blaming the Taliban’s failure to act decisively against militant networks.

The United States also urged the Security Council to formally warn the Taliban over the lack of progress on counterterrorism commitments made to the international community.

Panama’s representative, Eloy Alfaro de Alba, voiced serious concern over rising armed incidents linked to TTP, ISIS, and other militant groups in Afghanistan.

Iran’s UN Ambassador, Saeed Iravani, emphasized that Afghan territory must not be used for terrorism or violence against neighboring states. He called on Afghanistan’s interim authorities to take full responsibility for halting all forms of support to terrorist organizations.

Pakistan reiterated that it has presented undeniable evidence to the global community showing the use of Afghan soil for attacks against its territory. Delegates agreed that lasting peace in the region is not possible unless terrorist safe havens in Afghanistan are dismantled.
