UNITED NATIONS: Representatives of several UN Security Council members have reiterated strong opposition to the annexation of any part of the Occupied Palestinian Territory and to the forcible displacement of Palestinians.
They warned that such actions violate international law and threaten prospects for peace.
Speaking at a Security Council press stake, Pakistan’s Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad delivered a joint statement on behalf of Bahrain, Denmark, France, Greece, Latvia, Pakistan, Somalia and the United Kingdom.
The group, guided by the UN Charter and relevant Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 2334, stressed that any attempts to alter the demographic composition, character and status of Palestinian territories occupied since 1967 — including East Jerusalem — are illegal and undermine ongoing peace efforts.
They recalled that the Security Council has consistently condemned such measures, noting that they run counter to a comprehensive peace plan and jeopardize the chances of achieving a just and lasting resolution to the conflict.
The representatives also called on Israel to immediately and completely halt all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territory, in line with its legal obligations under international law. They reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to ensuring the implementation of its resolutions.
Expressing concern over rising violence, the statement condemned ongoing attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinian civilians and broader violence against Palestinian communities. It highlighted recent incidents, including the killing of Palestinian children, as unacceptable.
The group urged an immediate end to such actions and called for accountability for those responsible.
