TEHRAN: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has accused the United States and Israel of attempting to spread unrest in his country for their own interests.
President Pezeshkian appealed to the Iranian public to distance themselves from ‘rioters’ and ‘terrorists’ and help maintain peace in the country.
Pezeshkian said Iranian people should trust that the government was actively working to establish justice and resolve issues, and assured that the authorities would not allow anyone to spread chaos.
In his televised address, Pezeshkian stated that the government was making every effort to alleviate the people’s hardships and maintain stability within the country. He called on all sectors of society to unite for peace and to stand against the ongoing riots.
He urged citizens to avoid causing harm to others and refrain from engaging in violence or bloodshed. He reaffirmed the government’s ongoing campaign against corruption. Pezeshkian also stated that US President Donald Trump should feel embarrassed about actions taken in Venezuela, Gaza and other places.
Meanwhile, nationwide protests against inflation and economic hardship have been ongoing in Iran for the past 14 days with at least 192 people reported killed, according to an Iranian human rights organization based abroad.
Reports indicated that the US administration was seriously considering targeting non-military sites in Iran although no final decision had been made.
Iran’s leadership has warned the US president that any military action against Iran would be met with a strong response. US media reported that Trump had been briefed on potential military options, but no definitive actions had been taken.
