ISLAMABAD: A visiting delegation of US Congress members has described their recent tour of Pakistan as “successful and positive,” highlighting the potential for enhanced cooperation in key sectors such as mineral development and information technology.
Speaking to media representatives in Islamabad, Congressman Jack Warren emphasized the significance of Pakistan’s mineral resources, calling them vital for future joint ventures.
“Pakistan’s mineral sector presents a great opportunity for partnership. We are focusing on specific areas where innovation in mining techniques and the development of new products can lead to a productive and mutually beneficial future,” he said.
Congressman Thomas Richard Suozzi, another member of the delegation, termed the visit “remarkable” and underlined the importance of deepening people-to-people ties between the two nations.
“Pakistani-Americans are a bridge between our countries. We view them as ambassadors who have excelled in various fields in the United States and contributed meaningfully to our society,” he stated.
The visit comes at a time when both Pakistan and the United States are exploring avenues to revitalize bilateral relations in a rapidly evolving regional and global context. The delegation’s engagements in Islamabad included meetings with senior government officials, business leaders, and members of civil society.
A key highlight of the visit was the delegation’s meeting with Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir. During the meeting, both sides discussed regional stability and defense cooperation.
Memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed to promote collaboration in the field of information technology, particularly in training and capacity-building initiatives.
According to sources, the US delegation expressed keen interest in expanding cooperation beyond traditional security-focused areas, aiming to invest in sectors that support economic development, job creation, and technological advancement in Pakistan.
The visit by the congressional delegation is being viewed as part of a broader diplomatic effort to reset and strengthen US-Pakistan ties amid shifting geopolitical dynamics in South Asia.
