WASHINGTON: On the occasion of Pakistan’s Independence Day, American political leaders and officials extended warm greetings to the people of Pakistan, underscoring the strong and enduring partnership between the two nations.
Members of the U.S. Congress, including Representatives Judy Chu, Zoe Lofgren, Pete Sessions, Avieti Clarke, and Senators Chris Van Hollen and others, praised the contributions of the Pakistani-American community to the social, economic, and cultural fabric of the United States.
Representative Judy Chu of California remarked, “It is an honor to be part of the Independence Day celebrations. I extend heartfelt congratulations to the Pakistani people and the vibrant Pakistani-American community in Southern California. Your contributions strengthen our nation’s economy and communities.”
Representative Zoe Lofgren highlighted the impact of the Silicon Valley Pakistani-American community, saying, “Immigrant communities like the Pakistani-Americans play a vital role in our country’s welfare. Recognizing their positive contributions is essential for strengthening U.S.-Pakistan relations.”
New Jersey Assembly member Sham Haider, the first Muslim and Pakistani-American elected to the state assembly, added, “Today, we celebrate the courage, vision, and sacrifices that gave us our motherland. Wherever we are, Pakistan lives in our hearts. Let us honor our heritage, strengthen our unity, and work together for progress.”
Other leaders, including Pennsylvania Assembly member Tariq Khan and Texas Congressman Pete Sessions, also sent congratulations, emphasizing pride in their Pakistani heritage and the significant contributions of Pakistani-Americans.
Congresswoman Avieti Clarke, Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, said, “It is an honor to join in celebrating Pakistan’s Independence Day. I am grateful for the thousands of Pakistani-Americans whose skills and expertise contribute to our nation’s growth. It is a pleasure to consider Pakistan a neighbor and friend.”
Senator Chris Van Hollen, representing Maryland, added, “I am proud to celebrate Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day. My lifelong connection with Pakistan, born in Karachi, allows me to witness the generosity, commitment, and resilience of its people. I look forward to further strengthening the bonds of friendship between our nations.”
Additionally, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio acknowledged Pakistan’s role in counterterrorism and trade, emphasizing opportunities for cooperation in key sectors such as minerals and hydrocarbons and promoting economic ties that benefit both countries.
