US weapons left in Afghanistan being used by terrorists: ex-general

Ex-servicemen society president says no ragtag terrorists can attack 7th largest and battle-hardened armed forces.

RAWALPINDI: The president of Pakistan’s ex-servicemen society says that the US while withdrawing its forces from Afghanistan left behind arms, ammunition and equipment worth seven billion dollars.

Most of these arms and ammunition ended up in the hands of terror organizations who have been involved in terrorist activities in Pakistan, Abdul Qayyum, a retired lieutenant general of the army, told a news conference here.

He claimed that the US forces left in Afghanistan 78 aircraft, 9,524 air-to-ground missiles, 40,000 military vehicles, 300,000 weapons, 1.5 million small arms and 42,000 night vision equipment.

“No ragtag terrorists can attack 7th largest and battle-hardened armed forces. Their facilitators are present in Afghanistan and at the international level.”

He said the US left its arms in Afghanistan with the aim of keeping Pakistan  destabilized. “They are afraid that our army can be a threat to India. They want to keep Pakistan under pressure for containment of China by derailing CPEC and other projects.”

Mr Qayyum said that in order to contain the terrorists operating from Afghanistan, Pakistan should promote its relations with Kabul. He said it was not possible to ensure checking of the over 2400 km long border with Afghanistan except at a few crossings.

It may be mentioned here that terrorists have jacked up their activities in Pakistan especially after the withdrawal of the US forces from Afghanistan.

Despite repeated calls, the Taliban regime in Kabul has failed to ensure that the terrorists particularly the outlawed TTP stopped using Afghanistan for carrying out their activities.
