US secretary of state, Saudi crown prince discuss crisis

Antony Blinken is currently on Middle East visit as humanitarian crisis deteriorates in Gaza.

RIYADH: As Israel continued air strikes on civilian population of Gaza and its forces were preparing ground assault on the enclave,  US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh.

Soon after the latest conflict between Israel and Hamas, Riyadh has announced to suspend its ties normalization talks with Israel.

Blinken has been touring the region since Hamas fighters infiltrated Israel on October 7 and killed 1,300 people, sparking a massive retaliatory campaign targeting the Gaza Strip that has killed more than 3,000 people so far.

As part of its ties normalization package, Saudi Arabia was seeking security guarantees from the United States, its longtime partner and consumer of its oil.

It was immediately not known what the two sides decided to make a halt to the Israeli attack on civilian population of Gaza. The US has been backing Israel and providing the Zionist state with arms in its conflict with Hamas.

As they talked, the death toll from the Israeli attacks continued to rise to over 3,000 including hundreds of children in the blockaded Gaza strip.

Meanwhile, people in different parts of the world continued rallying in support of the Palestinian people and condemning the Israeli air strikes.

They called upon the international community to intervene and restore peace and stop genocide in Gaza. The demand for an independent state of Palestine is also growing as a solution to the issue.
